A Talk With @secretdiaryofawatchgirl

A talk with

by @watches_and_culture

Meet @secretdiaryofawatchgirl – 15 years into watch collecting, 8 months into sharing her passion. Her love for watches started at 13, after spotting a fake Rolex at school and telling her mom, “I need one of these bad boys.” Now, it’s an obsession.
Last Thursday, she joined us as a panelist at A TALK WITH LONDON. Here are 5 of her favorite references!

1__The IWC 3755 Perpetual Calendar, one of 20

If there’s a watch that tells my story, it’s this one. The 3755 is my teenage self obsessing over Kurt Klaus and perpetual calendars. It’s me in my early 20s, watchless but passionate. It’s the whirlwind after Justin’s video - the viewer who tipped us off about one for sale, the conversations with fellow enthusiasts. Pictured here is Sylvain Berneron with the 3755 when we met in Geneva. This watch represents a lifetime of obsession.

2__A Teenage Nerd and The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers

Total transparency: I am, and always have been, deeply nerdy. I’ve been a watch enthusiast for over half my life, though for most of it, I had no watches to show for it. What I lacked in a collection, I made up for in enthusiasm. Who really needs a watch? What defines greatness? In 2022, before the Instagram account, I joined the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers to learn from those doing the craft (pictured: a George Daniels Anniversary).

3__Watches and Wonders 2024: The Moment Everything Changed

If Secret Diary of a Watch Girl had a turning point, this was it. At Watches and Wonders 2024 (thanks, IWC) I was wearing the titanium Ingenieur. Enter: Justin. We were strangers, but he spotted the watch, and the conversation took off. Soon, I was lined up to appear on his 2 Watch Collection show. That’s when everything changed.

4__Justin Hast and the End of Anonymity

July 2024: The video drops, and suddenly, Secret Diary goes from 10 followers to an account with a face and a name. That video and the engagement that followed remain one of my favourite moments in this journey. Justin and I now film together regularly - we recently visited Hermès' watchmaking facilities in Switzerland. Truly special.

5__Roger Smith and my Birthday on the Isle of Man

At 14, I was reading George Daniels’ book, watching Roger Smith’s case-making videos, dreaming about independent watchmaking. Fast forward to 2024. After mentioning Roger in my video with Justin, I got an invitation to visit his workshop. On September 26th - my birthday - I hopped on a flight to the Isle of Man. Seeing Roger’s work up close, talking about independent watchmaking, and soaking in every second? Unreal.
