Horology is a world in itself, where industrial methods meet handcrafting, where art and science combine, and the vastness of the universe is captured by the infinitely small. The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) was established in 2005 specifically to promote this unique culture worldwide. It is supported in its mission to position the watch as an object of art and culture by its three pillars of information (Watches and Culture by FHH), education (FHH Academy) and debate (FHH Forum) at gatherings which connect leaders within the profession. 

This endeavour to promote horological culture is also that of the Horological Society of New York (HSNY). Founded in 1866 by two German emigres - which makes it one of the oldest continuously operating horological associations in the world -, HSNY is dedicated to the advancement of the art and science of horology through education. Initially a trade guild, its several hundred members now extend to a diverse public of watch professionals and enthusiasts. From its headquarters in Manhattan, HSNY fulfils its mission through a regular programme of classes and lectures. It also holds one of the largest horological libraries in the world, with more than 25,000 items relating to time and timekeepers. 

This common purpose has naturally brought the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie and the Horological Society of New York together, and the two institutions have established a partnership. “We’ve known each other for years and have always followed each other’s work,” said Pascal Ravessoud, FHH Vice President. “Both FHH and HSNY are at the service of horology in the broadest sense, its values and its expertise. You could almost say we were destined to meet! This partnership opens up interesting possibilities for synergies and projects between our two organisations.” Already, teams on both sides are working on a first set of ideas to put this partnership into practice.
