A graduate of the Geneva Watchmaking School in 1978, Antoine Preziuso proudly treasures the independence he chose as of 1980, after starting his career in a prestigious horological complications workshop. This eclectic artisan explores every facet of his profession – from the most technical to the most decorative – with remarkable creativity, particularly when it comes to the creations made under his own name since 1991. Antoine Preziuso is particularly fascinated by the tourbillon, which he describes as “the most symbolic illustration of watchmaking. It enables my imagination to journey towards new horizons and to see time in an entirely different light.” He gave a particularly spectacular demonstration of this approach in 2005, with the 3volution Tourbillon celebrating his 25 years of independence.
Inspiration came from a beachfront merry-go-round; the kind where giant teacups spin in the opposite direction to a platform. This principle is perfectly reproduced in the fascinating ballet performed by the 3volution Tourbillon. Three flying tourbillons revolve on their respective axes, each in exactly one minute, on a plate that performs its own rotation in 2.15 minutes. Arranged in a triangle, each equidistant from the centre, the regulating organs automatically resonate together and adopt a stable mean frequency, thereby considerably enhancing the precision of the watch – a phenomenon Antoine Preziuso admits to having discovered during the development process and to his own great surprise. The magical sight is thus matched by an equally enchanting technical reality.
Building on this experience, the Geneva-based watchmaker sought to perfect the system and achieved just that with the Tourbillon of Tourbillons, presented in 2015 and the winner of two awards at that year’s Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. Not least among the many challenges involved was the wish to create a less bulky watch. Thanks to a cleverly downsized movement, the fascinating horological merry-go-round occupies the entire dial ‘stage’ framed by a case measuring just 45mm in diameter instead of 52mm. This model reappeared as the Trillion Tourbillon des Tourbillons, thus named for the three Top Wesselton G+ trillion-cut diamonds on the dial. A further 233 Top Wesselton G+ baguette-cut diamonds adorn the case. This unique piece is set with more than 24 carats in total. In parallel, Antoine Preziuso has continued to produce tourbillons, notably enriching his The Art of Tourbillon collection with a number of particularly original and exclusive models.
