Black Tie Andy Warhol
Some watches are destined not to go unnoticed. Piaget's Black Tie is one, with its shaped case and signature gadroons. Launched in 1972 and produced until 1977 in small series, in white gold or yellow gold, the Black Tie caught the eye of a certain Andy Warhol. The artist fell for a model in yellow gold with an anthracite grey galvanic dial, driven by a Beta 21 quartz movement. In fact the Black Tie was one of seven Piaget watches that Warhol owned. Following a first reissue in 2014 in the Extremely Piaget High Jewellery collection, the Black Tie has since returned in white gold with a malachite dial and in rose gold paired with a black dial. Continuing celebrations of Piaget's 150th anniversary in 2024, the Black Tie Andy Warhol is cased in rose gold framing a malachite dial. Worn on a green alligator strap, this new variation shows off the curved silhouette of the 45mm case, still with the characteristic gadroons. The movement is an automatic calibre with 42 hours of power reserve, running at 21,600 vibrations/hour.
