Chronomètre FB 2RE.1

This second collection from Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud again references the marine chronometers which the brand’s namesake was making in the eighteenth century: the case reprises their shape while the movement is housed inside a gold cylinder that is water-resistant to 30 metres. Similarly, the manual-winding FB-RE.FC calibre is built in the style of a Berthoud marine chronometer, on 26 bridges supported by ten steel pillars surrounding the different organs. This impressive calibre features fusee and chain transmission with the specific feature that the fusee is “suspended”, i.e. held only at its base, in addition to a one-second remontoir d’égalité which releases small amounts of power to the balance via the escapement. Both these devices ensure consistent timekeeping accuracy. The movement’s many details are visible through the transparent caseback but also thanks to a porthole cut in the side of the case, at the 10 o’clock position. The FB 2RE chronometer is proposed as two limited editions of 10 pieces each:  one 18k pink gold with a black enamel dial and one 18k white gold with a white enamel dial. All the gold is ethically sourced.
