The "big reveal" from Patek Philippe in 2016 is Ref. 5930, the first pairing in the brand's regular collection of a world time function and a chronograph, with a central seconds hand and a 30-minute counter. Inspiration came from a one-off piece made in 1940. The world time function is exceptionally simple to use. The central hour and minute hands indicate the time in the time zone displayed at 12 o'clock. The time in the remaining 23 zones can be read at a glance from the city ring. The 24-hour ring is divided into dark and light segments to show whether it is night or day in that particular zone. Setting a new time zone is as simple as pressing the pusher at 10 o'clock. This causes the city and 24-hour rings to simultaneously adjust counter-clockwise in one-hour increments. At the same time, the central hour hand advances clockwise, also in one-hour increments. The new time zone is set when the required city name reaches 12 o'clock. All these functions are driven by a new self-winding movement.
