Rolex steals the show at Christie's

The highlight of the recent New York sale, a Rolex Oyster Cosmograph Paul Newman Daytona Ref. 6263, manufactured in 1969, sailed through the $1 million mark.
The Christie’s New York December 7 auction of Exceptional Watches achieved a total of $9,909,000. The sale sold 96% by Value and 87% by Lot, led by lot 33: a Rolex Paul Newman with “RCO” dial reference 6263, circa 1969, for $1,092,500. Sale Highlights included modern, vintage and sport watches from Omega, Rolex, Tornek Rayville, F.P. Journe, Heuer and more. Rare Patek Philippe models included an exceptionally fine 18k gold perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch Reference 2499, first series, circa 1952 (Sold for $636,500), and an extremely rare platinum automatic minute repeating wristwatch with enamel dial, Reference 3979, circa 1996 (Sold for $432,500).
Notable results were also achieved for rare Rolex models including Rolex Reference 6538, realizing $492,500 against its original $100,000 - $200,000 estimate, Rolex Reference 6241 “John Player Special” achieving $672,500 and a Rolex Reference 6034 that sold for $552,500. The sale presented an American icons section with property formerly belonging to prominent American athletes, celebrities and well-known personalities, highlighted by the Joe DiMaggio Patek Philippe Reference 130 sold for $281,250.
