Glossary

Thematic Jewellery, Material

Very hard mineral family (9) and resistant well to scratches and abrasion. With the same chemical composition (Al2O3), only the color defines the name of the corundum, red for "ruby", blue for "sapphire" (without additional addition) and other colors are called purple sapphire, pink sapphire etc.... In its purest form, sapphire is colorless and called "leucosaphir". The rich red color of ruby is due to the presence of chromium oxide. The blue hue of sapphire is due to iron and titanium and yellow sapphires contain iron only.
