Calatrava 24-Hour Display Travel Time - Ref. 5224R-001

Patek Philippe adds to its offering of travel watches and complications for everyday use with a Travel Time model that shows the time in two time zones using a 24-hour format. This type of indication, a familiar feature of 1920s models, has been redesigned with noon at the 12 o’clock position rather than the more usual 6 o’clock. To achieve this, the movement is an evolution of the extra-thin 31-260 calibre, to which Patek Philippe’s engineers have added a 24-hour mechanism and a Travel Time function. This 31-260 PS FUS 24H movement, visible through the sapphire case back, is automatically wound by an off-centre micro-rotor in platinum and fits inside a 42mm case in rose gold that measures a slim 9.85mm in height. Maintaining the Calatrava’s sleek look, local time is adjusted not by correctors in the caseband but by the crown. Rose gold appliques are clearly legible against the navy blue of the dial, with a double railroad track for the hours and minutes. A coordinating calfskin strap fastens with a rose gold pin buckle.
