Loving Butterfly Automaton
After the Bird Repeater, Charming Bird or Lady 8 Flower, Jaquet Droz lets its creativity take flight once more in the highly exclusive field of automata watches. Akin to a miniature theatre, the dial of the Petite Heure Minute becomes the backdrop for a naturalist scene. The cherub seated in a chariot drawn by a butterfly is taken from a sketch by the Draftsman, the automaton that enchanted Europe in the eighteenth century. The scene comes to life at the press of a button in the crown. This Loving Butterfly Automaton is a rare feat of technical and artistic prowess. No fewer than 40 elements in pink gold are hand-engraved then meticulously assembled to form the tiny cherub and the graceful insect, whose wings flutter 300 times over two minutes. Beneath the dark onyx dial, framed by tall gold trees, lies an exclusive automaton mechanism which took three years to develop and has two patents pending.
