Mars Mission
Louis Moinet intended this Mars Mission watch as a tribute to exploration of the solar system, hence the dial of this 100-piece limited edition was inspired by the first detailed photos of Mars, taken in 1965 by the Mariner 4 probe. Its surface is hammered, by hand, to recreate that of the red planet, following which the dial is copper-plated then a black patina applied for contrast. Between 8 and 12 o’clock, an opening reveals the oscillator as it beats at 28,800 vibrations/hour. Louis Moinet has completed this Mars Mission with a fragment from a Martian meteorite that landed in the Jiddat al Harasis desert, in Oman. Sculpted and now protected by an anodised aluminium capsule, it sits at 3 o’clock. The steel Neo case is built around two vertical bridges which enclose the movement container. There is also a second edition of this Mars Mission with a blue dial, again limited to 100 pieces.
