Moon Tech
A limited edition of 11 pieces, Louis Moinet's Moon Tech stands out for its unprecedented central display of the lunar cycle. On a curved disc, full moon and new moon go head to head, each represented by a lunar meteorite. Read-off is by an index at 3 o'clock, finished with a fragment of genuine Kapton leaf – the polyimide film that was used during the Apollo 11 mission as thermal insulation for the astronauts in the Columbia command module. When the gold-circled meteorite aligns with the index, there is a full moon. The automatic movement, developed by Concepto, incorporates a 135-tooth gear for the astronomical moon display, with a discrepancy of a single day in 122 years. The dial rests on a silicon wafer, etched with microelectronic circuits that give off kaleidoscopic reflections. Luminescent indices appear to float above it, held in place by a central ring and a flange. Extending between 8 and 10 o'clock, a skeletonised area reveals the balance wheel, escapement and bridges. An ultra-lightweight 40.7mm case in polished and satin-finished titanium weighs a mere 18 grams.
