After incorporating La Fabrique du Temps and opening its new manufacturing facilities in Geneva at end 2014, Louis Vuitton has moved up to the next level with the presentation of its first timepiece to bear the Poinçon de Genève hallmark. And not just any timepiece. This Flying Tourbillon Poinçon de Genève is a study in lightness and transparency. The movement is suspended inside a platinum case whose unprecedented shape combines a circle and a square. The tourbillon cage at 6 o'clock takes the form of the brand's signature V. Once a minute it overlaps the tourbillon bridge. The same V returns as hour markers on the smoked sapphire dial, which allows a glimpse of the barrel that provides the 80 hours of power reserve. The vertically aligned gear-train is a further feast for the eyes. In the space of a decade, Louis Vuitton has carved out a place alongside the handful of Manufactures that can lay claim to one of watchmaking's most demanding certifications.
